Our stance on the prospect of a plebiscite

We elect our officials to perform the required due diligence to ensure tax dollars are used appropriately. We feel any decision regarding if Calgary should engage in a 2026 bid should be made based on financial data and not on sentiment our as a tool for Calgary Tourism.

Calgary Council has a policy titled engage! Policy (FCS002) that states Council and Administration “… is committed to transparent and inclusive processes …”.

One of the Policy’s five guiding principles of engagement (consultation) is “Inclusiveness – The City will make its best efforts to reach, involve and hear from all those who are affected directly and indirectly.”

No Calgary Olympics welcomes any public engagement on this issue. To date, there has been very little. Any public engagement including a plebiscite would be an improvement.
